The effects of tretinoin cream

Why skin care is important

In a world where our skin is constantly being assaulted by toxins and harsh conditions that sap away moisture and cause irritation, it is important to provide a way for our skin to heal and regenerate.  Often times, it is the dead skin cells on the surface that harbor many of these toxins, which is why the best skin treatments use exfoliation as one of the first steps.  Exfoliation breaks down and remove the old, weakened, dead skin cells on the surface, allowing for the subsequent treatments to be more effective, and newer, healthier skin to come to the surface.

How does tretinoin affect the skin

Tretinoin Cream works very much the same way.  While most exfoliation treatments use acids and other abrasives to ‘sand’ away the dead skin, Tretinoin Cream uses a chemical compound to break it down.  It uses two basic phases for healing skin.

The first function that Tretinoin Cream has is that it wipes out the uppermost layer of skin cells.  Because the top layer harbors dead and weakened cell that carry these unwanted toxins, Tretinoin Cream actually exfoliates through a chemical peel, removing the top cells.

The second phase is a bit more complicated, but the principle is simple: Tretinoin Cream applies much-needed Vitamin-A into the new skin cells.  Not only is Vitamin-A perhaps, the most necessary nutrient for skin cells, but it is also loaded with anti-oxidants.  In addition, healthy cells retain moisture, in addition to an increased ability to fight infection and heal faster.

Can tretinoin cream have allergic reaction?

There are a few side effects and risks involved with using Tretinoin Cream.  First, because Tretinoin Cream utilizes a chemical peeling process to dispose of unwanted skin cells, it often causes irritation, burning, and itching, especially for folks with sensitive skin.  This is also very common in folks who use Tretinoin Cream frequently.

In addition, Tretinoin Cream is not effective against sun-damage, and will even put you at risk for an increased sensitivity to sunlight.  New skin cells tend to have a decreased resistance to the harsh effects of sunlight, often resulting in severe sunburns, even with short durations of exposure.  This is why it is very important to wear at least 15-SPF sunscreen, along with sun avoidance.

It is absolutely important to follow your physician’s instructions to the letter, as this will result in fewer unwanted side effects.

ALways talk to your doctor before using any skin creams.
